The Minivan From Hell

Leaving Ko Lanta was no luxurious departure, but we did eat breakfast at our favorite Indian restaurant before being picked up by the minivan!

Rice soup, mixed vegetables, deep fried egg omlet:

We were the first to be picked up by the minivan, which was nice at first since we could choose our seats and naïvely think that we might be the only ones in the van for the 5 hour drive to Phuket. We were shortly mistaken.

Stop one we picked up 5 people who all had humongous pieces of luggage that nearly filled the remaining 6 seats in the car. Stop two we picked up 2 more people, one being largely overweight and both with huge pieces of luggage. "Impossible, impossible," they kept insisting as the driver pulled all of the luggage out of the car and popped up more seats in the back so that he could rearrange the storage compartment and make room for THREE more people. But, of course it wasn't "impossible," it was possible since we were in Thailand and we sought off on our horribly uncomfortable, stuffy car ride to Ko Lanta, dropping people off along the way and picking up more at almost every stop.

After walking along the highway for 30 minutes and hitch hiking our way back to the Nai Yang beach area, since the driver refused to drop us off along the way to Phuket Town, we finally reached our hotel destination in Nai Yang beach! (We hopped out of the van when the driver pulled over and let a local Thai lady- man get out at her/ his stop.)

Our hotel room was amazing. It had air con, a huge comfy bed, a tv and a nice bathroom! That night we took a tuk tuk into Nai Yang Town and feasted on some local street food at the night market, then headed back to the hotel with Thai take out. We watched We're The Millers on Aidan's iPad and ate dinner on the floor haha.
